The Finnish defense forces excavated a large tunnel system in Pori, on the western coast of Finland, during the 1960’s. The complex was intended as a defensive vault and storage, but instead, it remained unused by the Defense forces until Ficolo bought it in 2011 and turned into a modern data center. The new data center was optimized for colocation service and as such it was the first in Finland.
The facility was renamed as The Rock by Ficolo and it consists of 9 separate tunnels, 8500m2 (90 000sqft) in total, supporting both shared and dedicated data center space. The Rock also houses Ficolo’s storage network and runs on 100% Green energy which comes from the Wind energy farms nearby as well as from a dedicated Solar energy plant.
