The DDC leverages Djibouti’s strategic position in East Africa as the major meeting point for undersea fiber optic cable systems connecting Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, to Africa. Collocated just meters from the new Djibouti Telecom cable landing station, the DDC offers international telecommunications carriers, mobile network operators, and content delivery network (CDN) providers a new opportunity to establish gateway hub services in Africa, as well connectivity for international services to Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Undersea and regional fiber optic cable systems connected to the DDC include: International: : EIG, SeaMeWe3, Aden - Djibouti, EASSy/WIOC, SEACOM, Ethiopia - Djibouti. Three additional systems - GBI, AAE1 and South Sudan - Djibouti - are planned for the near future. Regional in Africa: Djibouti – Ethiopia, and Djibouti- Somalia cable systems, with near term plans for fiber connectivity to South Sudan. The DDC also operates the Djibouti Internet Exchange (DjIX). The DjIX is an open internet exchange allowing customers, carriers, ISPs, and others to keep local traffic in East Africa local by reducing the need to exchange traffic at other peering points outside of the region. The DjIX is democratizing the Internet in Africa and promotes reduced latency, faster connectivity, and lower costs for network operators and Internet users in East Africa.
