The Kansas City Interent eXchange is the first and only free member sponsored internet exchange fabric in the greater Kansas City area, providing exchange ports at no charge to any network meeting minimum peering requirements. KCIX fabric switches have been strategically positioned in the two largest carrier neutral facilities in KC, at both 1102 Grand Ave. and 324 E. 11th St. The switches are connected via metro DWDM wavelength giving our members the opportunity to engage in settlement free interconnection with a diverse base of autonomous systems throughout the metro area. This local hand-off of on-net traffic is in most cases directly beneficial to both peers, as neither peer must pay to transit the traffic to other, and by eliminating the latency that would be required for the member's transit providers to haul the traffic to Chicago or Dallas (and back!).
