In 1951, the very first television mast (Netherlands 1) was built in Hilversum, but this was replaced in 1973 by this new mast on the Witte Kruislaan. Initially the tower was 142 high, nowadays the construction is 196 meters. The tower has been known as the Man Bijt Hond television tower since 2011. At the start of the new 2013 television season, the tower was 'officially opened'.
